Maersk Launches Digital Customs Academy with the UK IOE&IT

Source: Maersk

To support customers with the complexity of customs, A.P. Moller – Maersk launches Digital Customs Academy, a truly global e-learning platform for customs, logistics and international trade compliance. The platform has been developed in partnership between KGH Customs Services – A Maersk Company and UK Institute of Export and International Trade (IOE&IT).

We live in an increasingly complicated and complex world, where world trade is an important instrument for the global economy and recovery after the pandemic. When international supply and value chains become more integrated, the interaction with Customs and border agencies becomes essential from a compliance point of view.

To help customers interact with that complexity, Maersk Customs Services launches now a platform offering a wide range of digital training on core customs and logistics topics, delivered on-line in various languages. Its structure allows the learner to access modules relevant to their professional area of interest and level of development without the need to undertake a formal qualification.

“This is a timely landmark step for customs knowledge, competence and capacity building in a moment when international trade experiences increased complications, complexity and disturbance. The first digital Customs Academy will be offered as a global Maersk Trade and Customs Consulting Product to our customers in all regions and it will also be used by our own professionals to further enhance the high standard of the Maersk Customs Services.”, said Lars Karlsson, Global Head of Trade and Customs Consulting Maersk

“We are proud to announce the launch of a truly global e-learning platform as a resource for customs professionals. Together with Maersk and KGH we are the expert support to help trading successfully and compliantly. The Customs Academy also will enable companies to access the highest quality training for their new entrants”, mentioned Marco Forgione, Director General of the Institute of Export & International Trade

The new initiative is based on the successful experience of the UK Customs Academy, the worlds’ first digital customs academy, that has in recent years developed for HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Over the last years it has delivered Brexit related online customs training to the UK trading community with many thousands of students that during the pandemic have finalized their customs education online for the benefit of trade and society.

“This is indeed a major step forward in facilitating international trade, ensuring improved compliance, and optimizing the opportunities following on increased knowledge and understanding. We have seen the need for training within this area and are happy to provide over 50 years’ competence.”, said Patrik Heinesson, MD Business Unit Consulting, KGH Customs Services.

Digital Customs Academy is part of Maersk Global Trade and Customs Consulting which includes other new products, such as HS Classification and AEO Guru, available in the product catalogue and in all systems.
