More than 17 thousand 707 people (9,703 people trained and 8,004 national water licenses delivered) were benefited in 2021, through the National Visit for the Issuance of Marine Licenses of National Waters, a program carried out by the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) fulfilling all biosafety protocols, always hand in hand with seafarers.
This figure represents an increase of 96.7% compared to the end of 2020, which had 9,002 beneficiaries (5,060 people trained and 3,942 national water licenses delivered). The national waters marine licenses delivered are: seaman, 2nd class boat operator (up to 12 meters) and 2nd class fishing skipper (up to 12 meters).
The program is executed by the General Directorate of Seafarers (DGGM), in conjunction with other institutions such as the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN), the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama (ARAP) as well as local governments, while meeting the purpose of organizing responsible operators of small vessels and provide them with their corresponding maritime documentation, in addition to providing support to the men and women of the sea, so that they can support their families and improve their income.
The National Visit for the Issuance of Marine Licenses of National Waters has become the social arm of the AMP, where the technical staff of the institution travels to the coastal areas of the country to instruct seaman, fishermen and operators of interior service boats, making them aware of the importance of safe navigation within our jurisdictional waters and the advantages of having their documentation in order.
